...Why I Blog...

" You will have significant experiences. I hope you will write them down and keep a record of them, that you will read them from time to time and refresh your memory of those meaningful and significant things. Some may be funny. Some may be significant only to you. Some of them may be sacred and quietly beautiful. Some may build one upon another until they represent a lifetime of special experiences."

Ridiculous...

Yes, yes I know.  I'm a joke and embarrassment to the blogging community.  Just a quick update: I'm alive.  I'm living in Logan, and I'm loving it.  I'm loving my classes, new friends, Ambassadors, pretty well everything.  And simply so this post has a little substance, I'm including my first assignment for my newswriting class.  We had to write a personality profile about ourselves.  Enjoy!  (And I'll attempt at a later date to re-update you all on my life and possibly finish that 30 day blog challenge.  But I'm not making any promises.....)

Work without passion is just that: work

It was a typical spring day.  The sun was shining brightly outside, the sky was a brilliant blue, and only a few light wisps across the horizon gave any indication that clouds even existed.  Tulips and daffodils had only recently emerged from the earth, and a familiar emerald blanket was beginning to cover the ground.  The student center was bustling with activity, just as it usually is during the midday.  Some students lounged around discussing the plights of society while others hurried along to their next lecture course.  One student stands in line at the registrar's office, waiting.  It was just an average moment in so many ways, and yet for Kelton Wells, it was a moment that would change the course of his life forever.

"I grew up knowing exactly what I wanted to do.  I wanted to help people. That's the one thing I always knew, and the best way I knew to do that was through medicine," says Wells. In fact some of his earliest memories involve nurses, hospitals, doctors, and specialists.

But not for himself.

Wells' younger sister was diagnosed with a chromosome disorder a few months into the pregnancy and has been the fruit of medical miracles ever since.  "I vividly remember all the hospital visits," he says. The stark white walls, the feelings of stress and sorrow, and the pungent scent of disinfectant all made an impression on the young boy.  "But above all the sadness, I remember there was so often a feeling of hope and happiness.  New chances at life were granted, and even at a young age I remember understanding what a gift that was.  I wanted to be able to share that same gift with others."

And so his preparation began.  Wells had an aptitude for science and mathematics and was often involved in advanced courses, extracurricular activities, leadership endeavors, physician shadowing; basically anything that would strengthen his eventual medical school application.  His preparation likewise continued into his collegiate experience.  While most freshman students were enrolled in Introduction to Psychology and Music Appreciation, he was in the science building studying biology, chemistry, and calculus.  "I have always loved science.  There is something absolutely fascinating to me about learning what makes us tick."

During Wells' sophomore year, he enrolled in a general education course studying radio production which focused on the basics of broadcasting including news writing, production elements, commercial marketing, etc.

And within a few short weeks he was hooked.

"I've always known I was a unique combination of right and left brained, and this class just worked for me.  Honestly, I was in love, and it scared me.  I was the kid who had always had his life planned out, and being a journalist was not a part of that plan."  Wells' professors thought he had a knack, and convinced him, along with partner Sheraya Barajas, to enter a state competition in radio news production which required full execution of a radio news piece including concept, writing, and production. “I remember clearly when I asked Kelton and Sheraya to compete in the state competition,” says Professor Troy Hunt. “They were both reticent, but especially Kelton. He couldn’t believe that I wanted him to compete. When we were sitting at the awards assembly his anxiety was palpable. But when their names were called for first place the fear completely disappeared.”  Wells said, "I surprised myself by progressing on to the national competition."

And they won, two years in a row.

He waits in line not because the registrar's office is particularly busy, but out of hesitation.  He's had a plan for years, and he's about to pull the plug.  His hands feel clammy as he submits the form that will officially list himself as a journalism major, but a secret sense of relief emerges as he realizes that this may indeed be his calling.  "I found something interesting when I started out in radio: I got a thrill in telling a story that I had never experienced in all the time I'd been preparing for medical school.  And I realized that my dreams of helping people are just as fulfilled as a journalist as they would have been as a doctor.  Journalists tell the story of the world, and to be a part of that is what I strive for.  I want to make a difference in the lives of people."

Day 15

Your favorite childhood show...

The show that I couldn't get enough of when I was super little was Shining Time Station (a.k.a. Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends).  :)  My mom used to have this little side table that sat in the hallway of our house, and I would take all the stuff off of it and pretend that it was the front desk of Shining Time Station and that I was in charge.  Haha. I seriously loved this show.  I loved it so much that when I first saw Grease when I was older, I was quite miffed that Stacy Jones (played by Didi Conn) had pink hair in the movie (she played Frenchy in Grease).  Haha.  When I was little I also loved Gulla Gulla Island and anything on Nickelodeon or Nick Jr.

During my tween years I became obsessed with shows like Full House, Boy Meets World, Two of a Kind, etc, and anything on Disney Channel.
I'm slightly ashamed to admit this, but yes I did have a slight Mary-Kate and Ashley obsession at one point of my life...like fourth grade to be exact.  Haha.  (I was a fan even before Mary-Kate added the - to Mary-Kate.  Bet you didn't know that little bit of trivia did ya.  Hahaha.  ;) )

Let's just say I'm kind of a TV junkie...haha.

In other news, I'm pleased to announce that my bestie Rachel is getting baptized!!!!
I'm so incredibly excited for her that I can't even stand it!  Anyway, tonight I went over to her house and read scriptures with her, and just let me tell you, it was one of the most amazing spiritual experiences ever.  I seriously cannot even describe it.  It was amazing to sit and witness someone so new to the gospel learn and absorb things.  It was definitely a testimony building experience for me.  :)

Day 13

Explain a hobby of yours...

Umm, I have lots of random hobbies.  I've already shared my joy of photography and editing it.

I love cooking, baking, etc. (And my waistline shows it...haha.)

I love sports, both playing (even though I'm out of shape and don't do it like I should) and watching (which ends up happening more often than playing (see previous parenthetical reference)).

I enjoy audio design.  (Hehe, thanks Troy!)

I love acting and being on stage.  Knowing I've shared something with an audience full of people absolutely thrills me.

But more than anything, I love music.  It is through music that I have had my most fulfilling and powerful experiences in my life.  In short, music completes me.

Day 8

A song to match your mood...

One might think that as into music as I am that a  post like this would be a cinch...too bad that would be an incorrect assumption.  I'm even currently sitting in the radio station at my JC doing a DJ shift, and still am not entirely sure what song...  Maybe it's because I'm unsure of what exactly my mood is today....sad?  No.  Elated?  No.  Apathetic?  No.  Meh?  Yeah, just "meh".  Haha.  I know that sounds kind of pessimistic (or very pessimistic depending on whether  you yourself are either an optimist or a pessimist, but I really don't mean it that way.  It's just that this day thus far has been neither "fabulous" nor "deplorable".  Simply, meh.  Haha.

Instead of a song that matches my mood, here a couple of songs that I haven't been able to get enough of lately:

Forever by Chris Brown

What the Hell by Avril Lavigne

Perfect by P!nk

**Warning!  The Video for Perfect is slightly gory and entirely beautiful all at the same time.  Also, it is a link to the edited version, so no worries about a slip of the word.  :)**

Okay, so if you know me, you know that I've been obsessed with Forever since it came out, but I seriously just can't get enough!  Soooo good.  Probably because the lyrics represent everything I think love should be.

I've been meaning to post about this next thing for a bit now, and just haven't been able to find the time, so here goes.  Lol.  A while ago I applied for an Ambassador position at the University I want to go to, and am proud to announce that I'VE BEEN ACCEPTED INTO THE AMBASSADOR PROGRAM!!!!!  I'm soooooo incredibly excited!  I had been having a hard time actually deciding where to go after the JC this year, and between this amazing opportunity and a whole lot of prayer, I have made my decision.  (It also doesn't hurt that there is an INCREDIBLE scholarship tied to the ambassador position.)  I just found out today about our first gettogether/training coming up in April, and I am so excited and grateful for to start up this new phase in my life!

Oh...and I've changed my major.  Lol.  Sorta....Haha.  So, medical schools don't really care what your bachelor's degree is in necessarily.  They just care that a) you have one, b) you have completed the necessary pre-requisite courses, and c) you prove that you posses scientific knowledge through your performance on the MCAT.  I had been going to major in Biochemistry, because the Med-School pre-reqs are also required courses for that degree, so it would make things easier.  Well, I've found myself here at the JC taking quite a few Communication courses, which makes it highly plausible to finish a Journalism/Mass Communication degree in a manageable amount of time.  And besides, I really like it.  :)  Besides, med-schools get SO many applicants with a Bachelor's in some "science area" that after a while all the applicants start to blend together.  When you're an average chap like myself, you have to have something to make yourself stand out, like a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism/Mass Communication.  :)  Oh!  With a double minor in Music and Chemistry.  Lol.  So, yeah, there's the Kelton News of the Day!  Haha.

Like I've said before, life's a complete journey, you might as well have fun!

Day 1

A photo of yourself and a description of how your day was...

I'm pretty sure that I was supposed to take a picture of myself right now and post it...but I'm not going to.  Lol.  This is from just before Christmas, so it's recent enough, right?  [Just agree with me.  ;)]

Today in a nutshell?  Weird.  And I say weird, because I feel so accomplished!  But I don't really know why!  A group of friends and I decided to each give up something for lent (no, none of us are Catholic, but I do like the whole idea of bettering yourself, plus it was just something for a group of broke college students to do in an effort to entertain ourselves.  Lol.), and I gave up facebook.
(Insert gasps and shocked looks here).
I know, I'm in shock too.  It started out because I hadn't been on facebook for a couple of days when we were discussing what to give up, and so I just blurted it out...and then wanted to go post it on my status.  Lol.
It. Has. Been. So. Hard.  Like seriously!  I know it sounds completely stupid, but I have literally had urges to get on!  I've even had thoughts like, "Oh, I can just sneak a peak and noone will ever know....".  Can anyone say addiction!?  Uh, yeah, it's more than slightly ridiculous.  I am determined to do this though.  Anyway, the reason I brought this up?  With no facebook in my life I have been so productive!  It's insane!  And good!  Now I'm just worried how I can moderate my usage when my "fast" of facebook is over...(and yes I want to still use it, because I love being able to keep up with old friends with minimal effort...haha).

Today has consisted of: Organic Chemistry, homework, check e-mail, General Physics laboratory, a shift at the radio station (where I got A LOT of stuff finished up...yes I'm proud!), more work, and blogging.  :)  (Which is a BIG deal!  Lol.)  Tonight is going to consist of more homework, and visiting some friends who I haven't hung out with in far too long.  'Twill be good!  :)

P.S.  I'm really excited to be doing this thing!  :)

30 Day Blog Challenge

So...it doesn't take a genius to realize that I've had just a little problem with blogging regularly.  Okay, a BIG problem.  Anyway, in an effort to jump start my regular blogging once again (P.S.  I can't believe that I've been a "blogger" for over a year!  Crazy!) I've decided to participate in this 30 Day Blog Challenge (completely and 100% stolen from my friend Chelsey...thanks!).  Feel free to participate yourself!  (And nag me if I fall off the band-wagon...lol).

Catch-Up

Doesn't everyone love a good catch-up post!?  I sure know I do!  (Please note the bloggy sarcasm...lol)  Here's the deal, in all reality I do indeed love a good catch-up post, but what I love even more is blogging consistently so that it doesn't feel downright overwhelming to blog.

This past semester has been complete and utter insanity.  There is truly no other way to describe it.  The semester started with me getting a new job.  I was hired as a Secretary for the Dean of the Division of Arts and Sciences at the JC I go to, but along with some administrative changes at the school, my job is also changing, just to what exactly I still don't know...all I know is that I've been told that I do have a job.  I still work at the Wingy as a Team Leader, but not very often (for the past couple months only on Thursday and Saturday nights).  I'm going to pick up MANY extra shifts over Christmas break however.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my new job doing administrative things!  It has been really interesting and fun to see the inner workings of business and academia

Auditions for the jc's production of Stephen Sondheims Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street were held on the first night of the semester.  Upon arriving I was informed that the pianist for auditions had flaked out on them and was there any way that I could accompany everyone for auditions!?  BAH!  *Commence freakout now.*  Lol.  It was slightly insane, and while I managed (if you can call it manage...probably more like muddle) to make it through it was definitely frustrating.  Anyway, I ended up being cast in the show as TOBY!  This has been one of my dream roles for forever, but I never thought I'd get it because of age!  I'm forever indebted to the director of the show for giving me the opportunity.  There could have been several posts just about Sweeney, so I won't go on too much longer, but I just need to say what an amazing opportunity it was.  I developed so much as an actor and as a singer, as a performer.  I made amazing friendships and rekindled some old ones. I will always love that role; I will always love the memories.

And here it is MARCH, and I still haven't finished this "catch-up" post, so I'm just going to post it for what it is...hahaha.  Sorry folks!

Everything Happens For A Reason

All I can say about the past little while is WOW.  6 months ago, I never thought I would be in the place I am right now, but I can honestly say that I am the best me that I have ever been.  It is amazing to me to see how the Lord shapes our lives.  Although we are sometimes forced to go through pain and heartache, the Lord knows what he is doing, and if we will just be humble and allow him to guide our life, when all is said and done we will be in a far better place than we were originally.  I promise.  It might have taken me 20 years to figure out, but I now KNOW that it is an eternal principle, and it is the most reassuring feeling ever.  :)

So, you're probably asking, "What has made Mr. KKW get all philosophical on us?" Well, the answer would be...life!  I recently found out that someone very dear to me had been spreading some rather hateful and malicious rumors about me.  It's not and never was about what was said, merely that there was anything said at all...it has been the hardest thing of my life to end this friendship.  I still care very deeply about this person and their welfare, and I imagine that in some other dimension we are still friends, but I honestly can't allow myself to be hurt like that...While it has been an extremely painful experience to deal with, I have been amazed how much happier now.  That person was such a negative influence in my life, and it's amazing how different my outlook on things has changed.  Everything happens for a reason.  EVERYTHING.  I promise.  :)

Look who's back... ;)

So I know I haven't blogged in forever, but I will try to be better, I promise.  Anyway, I stumbled across this quote today, and it was exactly what I needed to hear.  Enjoy...

“Faith in something greater than ourselves enables us to do what we have said we'll do, to press forward when we are tired or hurt or afraid, to keep going when the challenge seems overwhelming and the course is entirely uncertain.”
- Gordon B. Hinckley

It WAS a good day! :)

At work tonight I got some good news that I've been hoping for for a while now...I was promoted!  :)  I'm now going to be a Team Leader Server at the good ole' Wingy.  I just hope that I can do as good of a job as my Managers think I will.  It'll be a fun adventure though!

Just plain a good day!

Today has been awesome!

I wrote a letter to my favorite missionary, I helped my dad and little bro unpack from Scout Camp, and I cleaned my room.

Sounds simple, but it's really been a great day!  I'm off to work here in a little bit, and I hope I make lots o' money!!!  :)

Yummy!

The Greek Festival was EVERYTHING I could have ever hoped it to be.  :)  I ended up going twice (no complaints here!  Well....I'll complain when I look at the scale tomorrow...yikes!), on Friday at around 7:30 pm, and again on Saturday at 12:30.  Even though the food is wonderful, the best part really is being able to spend time with really good friends in such a fun, exciting, ethnic atmosphere.  Friday night I got to go with good friends Meg, Paul, and Kim.  We had a great time, and I really enjoyed the live greek band that was playing while people danced.  Saturday I went with my Fa'ah the Beast, V2, and Carrie.  We had the BEST baklava ice cream ever, and then got to go on a tour of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and I actually found it very interesting.  I'm pretty excited for it to come again next year!

Kody did really well at the Stockshow, with one of his lambs receiving a Blue Ribbon and selling really well at the Auction.  He's excited to get his lambs ready to show at the State Fair in September, and I'm sure he'll do great!

Guess what I am....

I'm a NATIONAL CHAMPION!!!  Shae and I won!!!!  I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself!  :)

Shae, our professor Troy, and myself.

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Welcome to KC Troy! :D

As long as I have been around, I have never been able to fully understand myself and why I do some of the things in the way/manner that I do.  For instance, why do I always complain about having to wake up early and being "oh so tired", but I don't make a point of going to bed at a time that could ever be considered early... We had to be downtown for our competition to begin today by 8:30 am which meant that we had to leave the hotel by 7...I've blogged enough about Kelton and early mornings that I'm sure you get the picture... ;)  Haha.  At least after the epic "find-the-room" adventure of yesterday we easily navigated our way to the competition space.  :)

We found out that for our competition, we were going to be going to a "Watch-Party" for the World Cup in Downtown KC at the Power & Light District, where there was a HUGE bigscreen TV facing a large open area that was surrounded in a horseshoe shape by shops/restaurants/etc. almost like the Gateway in SLC, but all on one entire block that was kind of boxed in and not open on both ends.  Anyway, we had to create an NPR style news piece about the event that would attract families to it.  Shae was scared because she didn't know anything about Soccer, but a part of me knew that we had it in the bag!  There were probably 1000 people at the event, the energy level was completely out of control, and the whole thing was AMAZING!  So, we had three hours today to gather ALL of our audio, write our script, and record voice-over tracks, and I think we did really well.  Tomorrow we return to the "hidden" room in the KC Muelbach-Marriott to finish the competition during the edit/production phase.

The competition got over today a little earlier today than we had originally been informed, so were just kind of bumming around waiting for T-man (our Communications Prof.) to get there when I bought a bratwurst from a street vendor, and was then promptly informed by another man selling hotdogs that the stand I had purchased from was set up illegally, and would I please not purchase from said "illicit" hot-dog stand anymore...I pretended to feel bad and just walked away.  It was seriously sooooo funny!

Troy arrived just in time for us to get in line for the free backpack/tshirt/commemorative pin giveaway (I don't really intend on ever using any of these things, but hey, they were FREE!  Haha.)  After this, Troy took us to see the KC Municipal Auditorium that he knew Shae and I would love...let me just say that the Music Hall was BEAUTIFUL!  We went on stage, and kind of poked around the backstage area, and I am still in awe.  The hall had the most amazing acoustics ever, and I wanted to do nothing more than just start belting something out!
They really just plain don't make theater's like this anymore, and it's a shame.

After escaping the heat-wave-humidity-infested downtown KC in Troy's rented Ford Fusion (the car I desperately want/need to purchase for myself....) we went back to the hotel and changed, and then went in pursuit of some genuine Southern BBQ.  Troy had a friend that suggested we try out Gates Brothers BBQ.  It took us a little while to find it, and the phone call to the restaurant didn't help.  The woman simply said, "Oh, well we're across the street from Fritz's!"  ...Well, that does us no good...WTH is Fritz's!?   We eventually found it, sure enough...right across from Fritz's...Haha.

So we go inside, and are immediately assaulted by this teenage black girl, "HI, MAY I HELP YOU!?!?!?"  Except, it wasn't a question at all, but a statement.  While standing there dumbfounded, not knowing what to do she simply repeats herself, only louder this time, "HI, MAY I HELP YOU."  Finally, Troy speaks up and says, "Umm, I don't know, we've never been here before."  And then it was like we'd just summoned the Fairy Godmother of BBQ, because from out of nowhere, we hear this woman saying in a very loud southern manner, "You never been here!?  Well, let me help you out,"  and she proceeds to take us through the entire menu, until she gets to the "Four Boner".  It was one of those moments where you think to yourself, "Did she just say what I think she said??", and almost in answer to your question she immediately repeats herself.  It took every ounce of my strength to not burst out laughing!  Hahaha.  We decided to order two of these...platters... to share, and we hear her yell back to the kitchen, "SHAREEN!  This gentleman wants an EIGHT BONER!"  Yet another fit of laughter had to be stifled...It was soooo funny!  And then come to find out, the woman wasn't just pronouncing it funny, they actually call their BBQ ribs "Boners".  But don't worry, the BBQ was actually very good.  :)

After our BBQ escapade, we were driving around, (can I just say though that since Troy has gotten here, we have done more and had a more fun time in just a few short hours than we had the two entire days we were here by ourselves...) and Troy remembered this really fun diner place he had eaten at before, so we stopped for dessert...aka the most enormous milkshake ever!
Yes, that is an ARM behind that milkshake.  It was insane, but really good!  And then the Comm Professor decided to give us all a lesson about non-verbal communication...  In short, our waitress was HOTT!  Seriously, ever time she walked by I went all googly, to the point that one time (I don't exactly remember the specifics of what happened, but I've been graciously informed by those who were accompanying me...) I was in the middle of a sentence to Troy and Shae when she walked up to the table next to ours, and I was just staring at her, and didn't even finish my thought to T and S.  And then Troy tells me that when I looked at her my eyes dilated, which is apparently a sign of arousal...uh...yikes?  But she was really hot.  :)

Sorry this post is so long, but there were just to many juicy details of today that couldn't be left out!

Still feel like a 15 year old...

In the event of a tie in any of the SkillsUSA Championships (there are almost 100 or something), the tie is broken by your performance on a "SkillsUSA Etiquette" exam that the entire Utah delegation had to take at seven this morning, and it is seriously the dumbest thing in the world.  "When dining, what is considered improper use of the napkin?"  Exactly what kind of a question is that?  I'll tell you, a ridiculous one, and it had 49 little friends who were all bothering Kelton at 7 am when he would have much rather been sleeping.  Haha.  Shae and I didn't have to be downtown for our Competition Information Meeting until 2, so I spent the morning finishing The Bible (soundeffects version), and regaining the sleep that was stolen from me by a stupid test.

We wanted to make sure we had plenty of time to find our meeting room, so we planned to catch one of the shuttle buses at noon.  I was shocked to realize that the "buses" were school buses!  Yup, this trip is definitely making me feel like I'm only fifteen years old.  Oh well.  I'll live.  :)  I'm definitely glad we planned for the extra time to find our meeting room, because it took forever.  The Downtown Marriott in Kansas City is the most contorted building ever.  It's like it was added onto fifteen or so times, so none of the hallways actually connect to each other.  Here was the process to get to our room (which we're lucky to have found at all)
  1. Go in front door.
  2. Go upstairs.
  3. Go downstairs (and yes, you had to go upstairs first.)
  4. Walk past restaurant (where we ended up having lunch.  Not too bad either.)
  5. Down more stairs.
  6. Walk down the most beautiful hallway ever!  (Beautiful marble and wooden paneling everywhere).
  7. Go up gorgeous marble staircase.
  8. Go down a very, very long escalator.
And seriously, none of these places were connected to each other in any way other than by following the path I just described to you; it was very, very odd.

In case you were wondering, Kansas City is  HOT  and HUMID which makes it feel even HOTTER.  Like to a ridiculous degree.  Right now it is 93 degrees, but feels like 107.  The sidewalk is 123 degrees, and metal slides are upwards of 143 degrees; a report on the news just said that little kids are actually getting really bad burns from slides.  The ride back from KC to our hotel (about a thirty minute ride) on the good ole' school bus was seriously misery.  I'm back in my hotel room now, and the air conditioner seriously only shuts off for like 30 seconds before it turns back on.  I tried to play nice and cooperate with the heat and humidity, but that sneaky little hoe got the best of me.

Shae and are now going to take the hotel shuttle (NOT a school bus, thank heavens) to find a Wal-Mart, a mall, and some dinner.  Twill be a fun evening!

PS: I would have uploaded some pictures, but downtown Kansas City (at least where we were today) isn't really that picturesque...hopefully we'll have more luck in this department!

Apparently I'm 15 Years Old

So I've stated before that I am so totally not a morning person, like not at all, and much to my dismay this morning began at 4:30...WHAT!?  It was a feat in and of itself that Kelton was up and at 'em that early to be ready to leave.  We had to leave College/Hometown in enough time to pick up Shae in Orem and then be to the Airport and get through security and everything.  Our Communication Professor is currently enrolled in a Doctoral program and won't be able to join us in Kansas City until Wednesday, so we got to hitch a ride with the Welding department who also qualified to come to Nationals for SkillsUSA, and let me just say...what an experience!  The flight was largely uneventful, consisting mainly of me listening to my iPod, coming in and out of consciousness, and trying to reread The Sound Effects Bible in preparation for competition.  The flight from SLC International Airport to the Kansas City International Airport was just under two hours.  Upon disembarking from the plane we were greeted with the commensurate b--ch slap known as humidity...ugh.  Haha.
Shae and I pretending to enjoy the insta-wet humidity.

We then made the journey from the terminal to the rental car agency (which was slightly epic with 12 people trying to get on the same shuttle).  The next stage of our journey (from airport to hotel) in reality should have taken like 30 minutes (according to our Comm. Prof.), but we all ended up getting lost.  Yes, two van loads of Utahns trying to find their way in the Midwest, crisscrossing the Missouri/Kansas State line at least a dozen times for almost TWO HOURS!!  And let me share just a glimpse of the conversation had between us during those two hours...
Welder 1: Kansas, huh.
Welder 2: Yeah, isn't this where that Dolores b--ch is from? (Pardon the insinuated profanity)
Me: ...Umm, do you mean Dorothy?
...it literally took every ounce of strength I had not to laugh out loud and appear really rude.

Anyway, we finally found the hotel where we were provided the most entertaining debriefing of my life by the Utah State SkillsUSA Organization...in short even though I'm almost 21 years old and in college, I'm being treated like a high school kid.  Curfew is 11 pm.  11!?  What the crap!?  And then the infamous "no boys in girls rooms or girls in boys rooms EVER".  Umm, hate to break it to you SkillsUSA peeps, but I've gone on a few "Co-Ed" roadtrips where everyone slept in the same room the whole time...oops!  And furthermore, I know you're trying to avoid sexual promiscuity, but guess what, I'm over 18!  I'm legal!  (Not that it matters, I have no desire to do anything, but a part of me likes throwing the facts back in their faces...haha.)  This week has the potential to either be the best or worst ever.

Tonight was mostly lounging around the hotel (in Kansas City, KS), but tomorrow we're going into Kansas City, MO (where competition events are being held) for some information meetings and such, so much more exploring will take place and will be documented!

My room isn't too shabby though.  :)

Oh, hello. And you are?

Dude!  My life is running away from me so quickly that there is no way I will ever catch up!  Or will I?  Ugh...I sure hope I do.  Seriously though people, my car is disgusting and has needed to be cleaned for months, my bedroom is a complete disaster area, and it is all driving me absolutely insane!!!  I work almost everyday at the wingy, and whenever my dad is around and I'm not at Winger's we're working on the house (in case you're wondering why there haven't really been update posts about that, it's because we're not really any farther along...there was a minor setback where we had to move the location down the street a bit, so we had to move the sewer and electrical connection and stuff, but we're back on track now and should pour footings by the end of the week.), and on top of that National Radio Broadcast competition is next week, and I'm starting to get a little nervous about it.  I just want Shae and I to do an awesome job while we're there...

I feel like so much has happened lately that I haven't really posted a thing about!  One of my besties, Whitney, (who has promised me that she will start a blog in the near future...) got married recently.  The Saturday before her wedding Meg, Fa'ah, and I took her to dinner at a way nice restaurant and then seriously stayed up until almost five in the morning talking (poor Whit had to work at eight...haha).  It was one of the best nights EVER.  It was so nice and refreshing to sit and talk with your friends and to realize the importance they hold in your life.  Friendship is so amazing people, don't ever take it for granted, even if it only exists in the smallest, quirkiest way.  The day of Whit's wedding was actually a little hard for me, because a couple of months ago she had invited me that she wanted me to get ready and go through the temple around the same time as her so that I could go to her sealing.  In short, I was completely flattered, because that just meant soooo much to me...unfortunately now I will always regret that I didn't do the things I new I should have to be able to be there and share that special time with her.  At the reception, (which was absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous btw) she gave me the sweetest letter ever that means more to me now than she will ever know.  I seriously love this girl so much, she is the best friend anyone could ask for!  She and her new husband are the most amazing people ever, and luckily I'm in OChem with him this next year, so hopefully I have a chance of passing.... ;)

My good friend Bre also got married recently, and her reception was absolutely beautiful. They had it in their yard, and I kid you not, these people have the most amazing yard ever.  It was beautiful beyond description.  So amazing.

Tomorrow I am going to seriously tackle the problem that is my bedroom.  I am then going to practice for Nationals with Shae, and then if I can go up to Provo for dinner and a movie (Tucano's anyone!?) with Meg and my Fa'ah the Beast.  :)

After writing this post that started out a little whiny, I've realized how completely blessed I am.  I am surrounded everyday by people who I love and who love me...at home, work, school, and play, I am soooo blessed.  I love it, and I love my life.

Darn...

So, I have this really bad habit of not posting for what seems like FOREVER, and then I just keep not posting, because I feel like soooo much has happened, and I don't know how to update life very well...haha.  But, I decided tonight that I would just buckle down and get to it!  Haha.

Well, as you have probably noticed, the blog got a minor overhaul, and I'm very pleased with how it turned out.  My favorite part is the new blog signature, of which I may or not be a little obsessed...I'll let you be the judge... ;)  I failed at an attempt to change the font of my post titles, post dates, and sidebar titles as given by the tutorial over at Kevin & Amanda, but I'm so obsessed with fonts, that I quite possibly might attempt it again even though I really don't think my sanity could cope with another fail.  But now, only two days after my overhaul, Blogger has come up with this new template generator that I'm not sure I like...none of them are as clean and simple as the old ones were, and yet I'm sure noone really cares what Mr. K's opinion on the matter was anyway...Haha.

Right now I am needing to get to a Wedding Reception for my friend Bre, so this post will be continued later!

Well, the parentals went to the city today (just to Provo I think, but who knows...haha), and so today I've been playing the role of "homemaker".  Literally.  I've done like 6 loads of laundry, cleaned the bathroom, cleaned the kitchen, cleaned my room (why ruin a cleaning streak!?  Haha.), and it's about time to go pick up the little kids from school and I haven't even decided what to make for dinner yet!  Haha.  I'm sounding like my mother...oi vei!  At least I get to leave them with Nanny (that's what we call my grandma.  :) ) when I have to go to work at 6.

Last night was spent watching a movie with my Fa'ah the beast in our private lounge...haha.  ;)  It was fun, and I really enjoyed spending some time with her.

I was reading the NieNie Dialogues just now, and I tell you people, if you EVER need a spiritual lift, check this site out!  Her post today talked about how everyone, even our worst enemies have the Light of Christ within them, even if it has been dimmed by a life of pain and misery.  I need to remember that the next time I go to judge someone...  I am truly loving life!

                  Happy Monday!

Has it really been a week since I last posted???  Wow, I guess that's what happens when life is BUSY!  I'm seriously sitting here thinking about what to write and it seems like everything that has happened recently is one MASSIVE blur...Haha. In short, my days have been spent working with my dad, and most of my nights have been spent working at the wingy (a.k.a. "Winger's" (have I mentioned that is the place of my employment?  Well, anyway I'm a server there, and actually enjoy it...sometimes...lol).  We're basically finished with the renovations at my Uncle's restaurant and can now begin full force work on the house.  There is now a covered and uncovered patio (complete with massive flag pole that requires only two words of description: oi vei!), and horseshoe pits (that required installation of a sprinkling system and laying sod...lame...).  Hopefully it will really help business for them down there.

Ever since my last blog post that probably made me sound like a manic depressive to most of you (sorry about that by the way...) I've tried really hard to have a more positive outlook on life, and I can honestly say that I am really doing much, much better.  I actually went to church today because I wanted to and not because my mother guilted me into it, and that, my friends, is a huge step!  Haha.  Thank you all for your words of encouragement and friendship; you really make life a whole lot easier and much more of a joy to tackle.  I can do it, and I will.

I caused a bit of facebook drama this week...oops.  Haha.  I had logged on to the blog to check on the progress of some friends' poor hurt dog, and noticed that I had one less follower than I had the day before.  I was just curious, and eventually realized it was my ex.  When the relationship ended, although I had my reasons to not want to be with her anymore, for the most part everything was okay, and we've even talked a bit since the "break-up".  So I logged on facebook and was going to teasingly leave a post on her wall about it, but oops, she BLOCKED ME!  Haha!  I really thought it was funny, so immediately posted the following status:
"So, it's a weird feeling to realize your ex has blocked you on facebook and stopped following your blog...but even more weird of a feeling to realize YOU DON'T CARE! Haha! :)"
And it's true, I realized at that moment that while curious about the reason she felt the need to shut me out from her life I wasn't offended, nor did I wish to fix the problem.  I don't mean for that to sound heartless, but only to mean that it was the final confirmation that I had made the right choice in wanting to end the relationship.  I'm happier now, and I have a better sense of self-worth, and in my book, if you don't have that, what else matters?  Life is really interesting how it turns out sometimes...

By far the best part of my week was the end of year choir concert at my old high school.  Call me lame, but I have made it to both of these end of year things since I graduated myself, because the Vocal Jazz traditionally sings an awesome arrangement of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and invites all alumni of the group to come on stage and sing it also.  First of all I love this because I love my high school choir teacher; he is one of the most amazing individuals who is always there for his students, and I feel like singing this song is just a little "thank-you" to him every year.  He is truly amazing.  (I've been given the assignment more than once by him to organize an Alum Choir to sing this song at his funeral.)  Secondly, this song just has an amazing message of friendship and the power that it can invoke.  I love it.  It was a good reminder about how important the people we let into our lives are.  After the concert I went to dinner with four of my best friends ever, and it was great to rekindle old friendships, and relive the memories.  Two of my other best friends were out of town most of the week, and I missed them terribly.  I also owe one of them a sincere apology for doubting their loyalties...I'm sorry, and I love you.

This week is looking like it will be just as hectic as last...I work everyday except for Thursday when I'm planning to go up to Salt Lake for a day trip with some friends to see a movie (hopefully Letters to Juliet...haha) and go to a good friends wedding reception.  Good luck to you Carly and Chace!  I'll try to get at least one mid-week blog in though...
:)
