...Why I Blog...

" You will have significant experiences. I hope you will write them down and keep a record of them, that you will read them from time to time and refresh your memory of those meaningful and significant things. Some may be funny. Some may be significant only to you. Some of them may be sacred and quietly beautiful. Some may build one upon another until they represent a lifetime of special experiences."

Yikes!

Has it really already been 12 days since I last posted!? Time really flies when you're having fun, nope, scratch that, when you're BUSY OUT OF YOUR EVERLOVING MIND!!!!!!!! Oh well, that must be how I like it...right?

So after a semester (Fall 2009) in which I made NO move toward my major or my goals in life (although I did finish the general ed courses for my associates, and did graduate from the junior college) I am now enrolled in a major-productive, goal-oriented semester at the junior college. (Why am I at a junior college still after having completed my Associates? Well, I did promise this story in my previous post, so here goes...)

After what could possibly be categorized as a midlife crisis in early May (if you know what I'm talking about, good on you, if you don't, I'm sorry but maybe I'll share in the future...haha) I spent most of the summer rebelling against all that had been the main staple in my life. I then registered for a semester of school essentially just to have something to do, and can honestly say that I didn't have to work at it at all. The 4.0 that semester really means nothing, because I essentially put forth zero effort for it. I decided to apply for graduation in December just to break with traditions (another evidence of my continued realization that I am in fact a rebel...) and really don't have any regrets. There are, however, a semester and a half worth of pre-requisites for my major and medical school offered at the junior college that I really feel (and God apparently feels too) I should take there. Needless to say, this semester I am taking Human Physiology and Human Anatomy, each with their corresponding labs.

Before Christmas, I decided to audition for the JC's production of 1776, and was cast in the role of Robert Livingston, representative from New York. The first portion of my semester was completely crazy trying to do school, ambassadors, work, and this play. It was way fun though, and I really enjoyed getting to know the people in the Theatre Department that I otherwise would not have become aquainted with. I had some pretty legit hair, in this play, which I unfortunately don't have a decent picture of. But here is a photo of me and some fellow cast members. It was seriously so much fun though, but I was so glad for it to be over, and for me to get my life back, only I apparently DO NOT learn from my mistakes, and soon found myself auditioning for the next show, William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure. I received the part of Lord Escalus, for which I'm kind of happy, it's not huge nor tiny, and all in all will require less rehearsal time than 1776 did. Luckily, I have the best boss ever at Winger's who is so totally willing to work with my schedule, and try as I might won't let me quit (thank you KG!)

Even with my hectic schedule, I have still managed to be able to squeeze in a couple of shifts a week at work, and thankfully working as a server is actually very well compensated through tips, so I always have money...however, I have this problem where the money doesn't seem to stick around very long. In the past month, I have gone to two plays in SLC which has not been good for my pocket book.
There is normally a rule in the Theatre Department that as you approach the "run" of a show and during the run that everyone is on "Collegetown Arrest" and can't leave town in case someone were to be killed or injured during travel (that's what they tell us anyway, but I'm not completely convinced...haha). However, during the run of 1776, Broadway Across America brought Avenue Q to SLC, and we were allowed by the director to break the arrest policy and take a school van to go see the show. It was such a blast! The show was much dirtier than I was expecting, but it was SOOO hilarious, and I loved it. On our way home we stopped by fye, and as usually I spent way too much money on CD's and movies that I don't need...dangit...[And no, I'm not pictured in the photo, because I was the one taking the pics... :( ]

Then, just yesterday I was able to go SLC again for the Pinnacle Acting Company's production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee which again turned out to be much dirtier than I expected, but that I loved!!! I was able to go with my good friends V2, Fa'ah, and Em (okay, so the last one is more than good friend...haha), for Fa'ah's birthday. We had dinner at the Olive Garden (one of my favorites!) before hand, and had a good time talking on the drive between SLC and hometown. It turned out to be a way fun weekend!

Anyway, sorry it has been ten days...oops! I will try to be more prompt from now on. :)

I actually think this blog thing is growing on me..... crazy...

The play was a little dirty but overall it was really funny. I had a good time and the food was AMAZING.

Good luck with Measure for Measure! You will do a wonderful job and I am glad that you have such a wonderful outlet with your crazy busy schedule!

:)
